Eliza Street Artwork Panels

Lauren Morsley and I were commissioned by Sustrans to create a series of four illustrated panels, as part of their Eliza Street Pocket Places project.

The panels were co-created using ideas generated in workshops with Clepington Primary School, Morgan Academy and the Dundee International Women’s Centre.

Completed Panels

The purpose of the panels was to celebrate sense of place and heritage in Stobswell, and visualise how the future might look, as inspired by the different groups’ suggestions. Lauren and I chose to theme the panels around different times of day, visualising a partly imagined Stobswell in the morning, afternoon, evening and night, and we each illustrated two panels.

Lauren and I were responsible for organising the production and install of the panels, and we commissioned local signmaker Barry Robertson from Robertsign to handle this stage of the project. He helped us establish suitable sizes, materials and install techniques for the four panels to suit the railing and environment.

Workshops and Community Engagement

Workshop with Clepington Primary

In a workshop with Clepington Primary School, we went on an inspiration walk around Stobswell for inspiration, taking notes of colours, patterns, shapes and landmarks, whilst also considering how the space might be improved.

These ideas and imagery were combined into panel designs using limited colour palettes, considering what they’d like to be included in the final designs.

Workshop with Dundee International Women’s Centre

In the session I facilitated with Dundee International Women’s Centre, we invited attendees of the centre to contribute ideas about what the panels should include. We went on an inspiration walk around the area, and decided it would be nice to make the panels interactive in some way, with things to spot or prompts, for families to enjoy while passing by.
