QUAD Q Club Illustration Workshops

I was commissioned by QUAD Derby to facilitate a series of illustration workshops with Q Club, to co-design a series of illustrations to accompany a poem they’d written with poet Caleb Parkin, called ‘Dirty Decorators’. Q Club was aimed at children living with difficulties including autism, additional support needs, being a young carer, socially excluded or bereaved.

The workshops consisted of a series of weekly virtual sessions via Zoom, as we progressed through the design of illustrations for the booklet. I began the facilitation of each session with a presentation discussing the topic area of the week, including mark making, colour or thumbnailing, and then dedicated the rest of the session to drawing in small breakout rooms, in which we could discuss ideas and show our drawings.

The final artwork was collated and I edited the drawings into larger compositions, which were then exhibited at The Royal Derby Hospital alongside the words of the poem.
